Casey Crime Investigation Unit is investigating an aggravated burglary in Cranbourne on Monday 1 September.
Detectives understand the victim was in his Cochrane Street home around 11.20pm when he heard an intruder gain entry.
The victim confronted the offending male with a bat, scaring the offender off, police allege.
The victim was not injured during the incident and the offender left empty-handed.
