STUDENTS and teachers at Rangebank Primary School learnt some valuable lessons last month when a member of the Melbourne Football Club took over the reins for the day.
Melbourne Football Club chief operating officer Matt Green took part in Principal for a Day at the Cranbourne school on Tuesday 23 August.
Mr Green is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Melbourne Football Club. His portfolio of responsibilities includes the finance, human resources and information technology functions, as well as player contract management and negotiations and the maintenance of key stakeholder relationships.
Mr Green was introduced to the students at an assembly where students asked questions about a range of topics including the recent sacking of the coach to where the Demons were on the ladder.
Rangebank principal Colin Avery said Mr Green discussed with the children the need to have strong values and to uphold them as best you can as well as the importance of cultivating respect.
Mr Green then addressed the teachers and members of the student representative council on topics including the wonderful work the Melbourne Football Club was doing in Casey with programs such as Read Like a Demon, You Can Kick Goals and Digital Demons.
Mr Avery said the experience was positive for the school and school leaders, who had the opportunity to meet someone of his calibre to discuss ways of improving themselves.
“Mr Green talked about the importance of role models and how footballers are role models for many children,” he said.
“Similarly in our school, our senior students need to be good role models for our younger students. It was a great day for all.”
