Employee tests positive

A Woolworths worker at the Hunt Club Shopping Centre has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The staff member last worked at the Cranbourne East store on Wednesday 29 July and did not present with any symptoms of illness at the time. They are now in self-isolation.

Woolworths were notified of the case on 1 August and management have placed a customer notification up in multiple parts of the store.

According to the notice, the worker’s last shift at the store was 29 July from 6am to 12.30pm. “Any customers who shopped in our Cranbourne East store on 29 July and feel unwell in the next two weeks should make contact with the Department of Health and Human Services,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.

“As a food retailer, we already have very high standards of cleaning and hygiene in place. As an extra precautionary measure the store had an additional deep clean overnight on Saturday 1 August.”

The store reopened at 7am on 2 August.

“While the risk of transmission to customers and team members is low, the safety and wellbeing of the local community is our priority,” the spokesperson said.

“Customers and team members should be assured they can continue to safely shop and work at our Cranbourne East store.

“We’re making contact with our Cranbourne East team members and will provide our full support to those required to self-isolate in line with advice from the health authorities.”

Woolworths has special Covid-19 leave top-up provisions in place to ensure no team members are financially disadvantaged based on their employment status or availability of personal leave if they contract Covid-19 or are required to self-isolate.
