Fun in the gardens

THE School Holiday Program at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Cranbourne, is something to mark in your children’s calendars.
Activities will be held over two weeks between 24 September and 9 October and will be full of animal and plant fun for children of all ages.
They include: Ranger Grubby – for children who have always wanted to be a ranger to learn about what goes on behind the scenes in the gardens. Rangers are encouraged to wear their best ranger outfit. Suitable for children aged five to 10.
Build a hortasaurus – children can run up the garden’s hortasaurus’ belly, tap on its ribs and slide down its tongue and then pot-up a plant and create their own creature to take home.
Wildflower fairies and elves – the Wildflower Fairy Program encourages children to dress up as fairies, elves and other creatures and make fairy crafts. Suitable for children aged two to five.
Self-guided fairy and elf hunt – pick up a map from the visitor centre and search for the fairies and elves hiding throughout the Australian Garden.
Night prowl and bush barbecue – have a delicious barbecue at the Woodland Picnic Area and then head into the bushland to discover native animals that emerge at night, including wombats, wallabies and possums.
Children aged between five and 10 are encouraged to join the Garden Grubs Kids’ Club for $20 per year.
New members receive a backpack full of garden goodies and invitations to school holiday programs and special Garden Grubs Kids’ Club days.
Discounts apply for all Garden Grubs Kids’ Club members for most school holiday activities. To join, visit www.gardengrubs.com.au For details visit www.rbg.vic.gov.au/rbg-cranbourne
