Man burned in cable shock

A MAN suffered burns to his hands and his feet from an electric shock in a workplace accident in Cranbourne West on Tuesday afternoon.
Intensive care paramedic Yvette Mersits said the 55-year-old man was erecting a pole on a new estate, and it appeared the pole came close to power cables.
“We believe the electricity arced from the cable to the pole the man was holding,” she said.
“He has burns to his hand, where the electricity entered his body, and burns to his foot where it exited his body.
“The electric shock had also put his heart into an abnormal and fast rhythm.”
Ms Mersits said paramedics covered the burns with a gel-covered dressing and administered the man pain relief through a drip in his arm.
She said while the man had obvious burn injuries, there was also the potential that he had suffered internal injuries when the electricity passed through him.
He was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.
