A CRANBOURNE mum’s journey through weight loss has brought ‘Australia’s Favourite Diet Mum’ Karen Gatt to the area for the first time.
Kerry Jowett, who is deaf, went to Karen’s support groups in Deer Park and with the help of her oldest son, Wayne, beat the bulge and won her battle with obesity.
Wayne attended support groups with Kerry and used sign language tell his mother what Karen said.
Since starting in 2001 she has lost 40kg, slimming down from 98kg to 58kg within 16 months.
Kerry said she is very excited about Karen coming to Cranbourne.
“Karen changed my life and I’m really thrilled she has chosen Cranbourne for her first bootcamp on this side of the city,” she said.
“Losing weight is hard for anyone – you have to keep working at it. You have to make every day count – a little bit each day goes a long way.”
Karen is best known for her Clothesline Diet, which saw her half her body weight walking around her clothesline for 13 months because she was too ashamed to walk in the street.
“I lost 67kg and I’ve maintained my current weight for 11 years,” Karen said.
“I’m very excited about coming to Cranbourne and if I can help one person at the end of the day, it was worth my while.”
She said she thought Kerry’s story was very inspirational.
“If she can do it then anyone can do it – she’s a living example that things can be done.”
Karen will be holding a bootcamp in Cranbourne, which will involve activities such as aerobics, circuits, discussions and other games.
The bootcamp will be held this Sunday 28 August from 9am to noon at the Balla Balla Community Centre.
Bookings are essential and places are limited.
