It’s a time of empire

IT’S a long way to the top if you want to rock ‘n’ roll, but local rock band Glass Empire have made a good start.
The band took out the City of Casey’s Push Start Battle of the Bands last month, winning a day’s mentored recording session at Pony Music in Hallam.
Sixteen local bands competed in two heats as part of the competition hosted by City of Casey’s FReeZA committee, Spectrum Entertainment, with the top three bands from each heat going through to the final round.
Second place in the competition went to The Mere Poets who will receive music lessons courtesy of Vox Music Academy.
Other bands who competed in the finals were The Approach, I, Valiance, Thieves and Trenched Hope.
City of Casey acting manager youth and family services Cheryl Casey said that the variety of music on offer during the heats was spectacular.
“This year featured a wide variety of bands competing, from hardcore and rock through to blues and pop, and the bar was set pretty high,” she said.
“The ultimate winners of the competition, Glass Empire, have already played in a number of venues around Melbourne. We wish them well at the southern regional final and look forward to hearing their upcoming EP.”
City of Casey Mayor Shar Balmes said events like Push Start Battle of the Bands were great opportunities for Casey’s youth to express themselves.
“We know Casey has a large, and growing, youth population and this was a chance to get involved and bring young people together in a positive way,” she said.
