STUDENTS at Courtenay Gardens Primary School learnt about an array of different cultures and countries last week.
Each grade had a country as a focus in their classroom for the week and each day children studied different aspects of the countries including their flag, national emblems, the map of that country, some art, craft or food from that culture, the language and greetings.
Various cultural groups also performed for the students including traditional dancers from Afghan-istan, India and Holland.
A group performed an Indonesian song and a student’s dad played the bagpipes.
On Friday, the school held a parade were students and teachers dressed up and showed off the country they had been studying for the week.
Teacher Monique Breen said it was the second time the school had held a Week of Nations.
“It was started to celebrate the ever-growing diversity of cultures at Courtenay Gardens,” she said.
