A Christmas Carol with a twist

By Bridget Cook
THE BATS Theatre Company will take to the stage this month for a Christmas comedy in July.
The company will performs its hilarious show ‘A Christmas Carol’ at the Cranbourne Community Theatre from Friday 22 to Saturday 30 of this month.
The play is about the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Towns-women’s Guild Dramatic Society group trying to perform ‘A Christmas Carol’ with only five actors, yet there are 19 parts to cover.
The actors don’t have enough time to always get their costumes changed, and they get confused about who they are and where they should be and often revert back to themselves, well their character in the actual auxiliary.
They bring on the wrong props or knock over the set and often a male will end up playing a female and vice versa.
The play involved lots of audience interaction with sing alongs, charades and audience members being asked to replace other cast members who are either late or debilitated.
The play is directed by Jenni Hunter and Susan Collier.
“I have enjoyed my directing debut with this wonderful and supportive cast, sharing many laughs,” Ms Hunter said.
“People of all ages will find this show hilarious. I encourage the local community to beat the winter blues with an evening at the theatre.”
She said the audience would laugh at the snowball scenes, the sets that are too tall for the cast and the interaction with the lighting crew to try and get the lighting right.
Tickets cost $20 for adults or $18 for concession and there are discounted tickets for groups of 15 or more.
