CRANBOURNE Harness Racing Club will share in a quarter million dollar grant for new modern equipment to ensure safe racing in the future.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich announced last week that the club would receive $24,800 for a new, modern grader, jointly funded by the State Government and Harness Racing Victoria (HRV).
Cranbourne Harness Racing Club chief executive David Scott welcomed the announcement.
“The new grader will enable our track curator to better manage our training tracks into the future,” Mr Scott said.
“The need for this equipment is even more critical with the impending development of an 80 horse on-course stabling development at Cranbourne and our club appreciates the government’s support.”
Ms Peulich said the grader would ensure that the racing surface at Cranbourne remained smooth and consistent after every race.
“As one of Victoria’s most prominent country harness racing tracks and Australia’s only tri-code venue, it is vital that Cranbourne Harness Racing Club can conduct safe, exciting and professional races throughout the coming season,” Ms Peulich said.
“The new equipment will also contribute to protecting the safety and welfare of horses, drivers and trainers as it creates a better surface to race on.”
HRV chief executive John Anderson said the continued investment in harness racing by the State Government was welcomed by the industry.
“This funding will assist clubs to upgrade equipment, complementing the commitment that HRV has made to its infrastructure,” he said.
