A 47-year-old truck driver of Cranbourne, who was allegedly responsible for a freeway crash that claimed the lives of four police officers in Kew last week, has been charged.
It is alleged police intercepted a Porsche inbound on the Eastern Freeway before the multi-vehicle collision occurred near Chandler Highway just after 5.30pm on Wednesday 22 April.
The truck driver was taken to hospital where he remained until 26 April.
Following a joint investigation by the Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives and the Homicide Squad, he was charged with four counts of culpable driving.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday 27 April.
