Preps thrive on first day

Excited little faces have walked through the gates of Cranbourne Primary School for the first time.

About 35 preps embarked on their first day of school including five-year-olds Ivy, Thapelo, and Zion (pictured) who gathered for a group hug while taking part in a range of fun games on Monday 3 February.

Assistant principal Di Fernand said despite some nerves among parents and pupils, the day went “quite smoothly” with the school welcoming new families to its multicultural community.

Ms Fernand said half-day classes were held for boys and girls separately before their big day to help them transition.

“We stagger it a little bit so we can help settle them and support them,” she said. “They’re doing really well”.

Activities included a tour of the school, a photo with the principal, ‘get to know you games’ and art and crafts.
