A textile artist will spend countless hours creating decorative wall-hangings to help raise money for a charity supporting expecting mothers in crisis.
From 14-20 October, Kaci Hillis of Cranbourne will use her handcraft skills to hold a fundraiser named Mini’s on a Mission to raise money for The Babes Project, a not-for-profit group supporting almost 200 women in Melbourne.
“I have always been very passionate about helping others who are less fortunate than I am and was looking for a way in which I could support different local charities,” Kaci says.
The Babes Project, based in Frankston, supports pregnant women when faced with challenges including homelessness and family violence.
Kaci began making macramé for friends and family as Christmas gifts last year and has since started a small business, By a Thread.
“I figured I could use this creative platform as a way to raise awareness and funds for the small charities that are doing incredible work,” she says.
In 2014, Kaci founded a not-for-profit organisation, Opportunity Twelve Inc., which provided support for people experiencing homelessness.
“I know how difficult it can be for local charities to get the support they need, both in raising awareness and funds for their cause,” she says.
“Mini’s on a Mission is my way of giving back to these charity organisations.”
Kaci’s says her fundraiser is part of her mission to select a charity for one week of each season and donate 100 per cent of money raised from her handmade macramé wall hangings.
