CRANBOURNE Labor MP Jude Perera is seeking State Government support for funding for the Casey Comets Football Club.
Mr Perera has been working closely with the executive committee at Casey Comets and has sent the application for funding under the Strengthening the World Game Program to Sport and Recreation Minister Hugh Delahunty.
“This funding application is for the development of lighting at the Casey Comets’ home ground in Cranbourne,” Mr Perera said.
“Grassroots clubs like the Casey Comets Football Club are at the heart of our local community.
“Improving facilities, such as the construction of lighting, would encourage even more people to get active and involved in sports like soccer in the Cranbourne area.”
Mr Perera said membership for the club last year stood at 400, including 110 who also played at the Casey Football Academy. That was expected to increase to more than 500 this season.
“The development of lighting would alleviate the immense pressure of scheduling training and games for all teams,” he said.
“Night games would free up weekend days for other scheduled clubs and community activities.”
A spokeswoman for Mr Delahunty said the application was being assessed.
“The minister will be announcing successful projects under this program in the near future,” she said.
