A CRANBOURNE woman is warning people to be careful after she was the target of an international computer scam.
Mrs Searle received a call from ‘Windows Service Centre’ and was asked to change the settings on her computer.
She doesn’t use the computer and said she would call back when her flatmate was home.
When Mrs Searle called Telstra to check the call was legitimate, she was told it was a scam.
“They said it is a scam running out of India and they ask you to change the settings on the computer and then they steal information,” Mrs Searle said.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has reminded people to hang up if they receive a scam call and never to disclose personal information or grant access to your computer. For more information on scams or to report a scam visit www.scamwatch.gov.au
