Students’ cup skills stack up

By Nicole Williams
STUDENTS from around the state ‘stacked off’ at Kilberry Valley Primary School last Thursday (2 December).
The Hampton Park school hosted the Victorian Primary School Stackzone cup-stacking competition, with 139 contestants coming from schools as far as Bendigo to compete.
It was a full day competition with individual and relay events for the under-six, under-eight, under-10 and under-12 categories.
Kilberry Valley Primary School was a first time competitor and first time host of the event and althoughthe school didn’t take home many medals, physical education teacher Lisa Holmquest was pleased with the effort.
“For the first effort, it was great – a lot of fun,” Ms Holmquest said.
Grade six student Jayden set the pace and received two bronze medals in the 3-6-3 contest and cycle.
Prep student Andrea made the finals for the 3-3-3 and 3-6-3 contests but didn’t win a place.
Cup stacking is a new activity at Kilberry Valley Primary School, having only been introduced this term as part of the welfare program.
But the students are already getting ready for the next competition.
