St. Peter’s College’s Clyde North campus will build a new performing arts centre following a State Government $4 million funding boost.
The funds, which were allocated in the state budget, will see a 350 seat auditorium built within the next 12 months.
Principal of St. Peter’s College, Chris Black said the announcement was a win for the school with plans for the facility to be available for hire to the wider community including dance studios and amateur theatre groups.
“The centre will ensure the performing arts, music, drama and dance will have its rightful prominent place as a facility of excellence for the arts,” he said.
“It will become a significant feature of the learning program at St. Peter’s College for many years to come.
“The performing arts centre will sit alongside the currently being constructed music, dance, drama classrooms enabling classroom learning to be transformed onto the stage,” Mr Black added.
Year 12 drama student Sean Humble said it was the best news he had heard for a long time and something that will put drama and the Arts at St. Peter’s on the map.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2021.
