Students at Tooradin Primary School have been busy rolling up their sleeves tending to their school garden – now they have a new fridge thanks to a local restaurateur.
Rob Cauzzo, owner of La Casa Sawtellis in Tooradin generously donated a new industrial fridge for the school’s Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program on Wednesday 20 March.
The funds were raised at an ‘Elvis’ Musical Night for the purchase of the much needed fridge to benefit all the students.
Teacher Rachel Davis said Grade 4 and 5 students were proud to show Mr Cauzzo their cooking expertise, and shared delicious vegetable soup made from produce harvested from the school garden.
“Rob was impressed that students across the school were learning about growing, harvesting and preparing fresh, healthy food and applying sustainable practices into their daily school routines,” she said.
“The senior students were also pleased that their Grade Prep buddies had made fresh grissini bread sticks to enjoy with their soup”
Each fortnight all the classes across the school create scrumptious meals designed by dedicated cooking teacher Sam.
“We are so thankful for the support given by our local community to enrich the programs within our school and build on the positive learning experiences of our children,” Ms Davis said.
