Visit to tip stings family

A VISIT to the tip on the weekend cleaned out the house but also the wallet for the Brockley family.
Kerry Brockley said she was “appalled” that two trips to the Cemetery Road transfer station cost her and her husband $125.
“That’s a car payment for us,” Ms Brockley said.
The Berwick couple used a van to drop off their waste, which included green waste and a mattress.
Both green waste and mattresses incur extra charges, as does using a van to drop off waste.
But Casey Council waste manager Michael Jansen said prices at the transfer station were “favourable” compared to nearby facilities.
“Many recyclable items can be disposed of free of charge if separated. Prices are always quoted at the weighbridge prior to disposal,” Mr Jansen said.
Ms Brockley said she remembered when a visit to the tip cost less than $10.
“When I lived in Pakenham we used to go to tip and it cost $8 for a trailer load. What happened to those days?” Ms Brockley said.
