Boats abound at Blind Bight

FASCINATING displays of classic model boats were on show at Blind Bight on the weekend.
People checked out the collection of classic model boats, from shallow draught American fishing sharpies to heavy sea- going working boats.
The Maritime History Preservation Society of East Victoria and the Blind Bight Boat Owners’ Club held the model boat show at the Blind Bight Community Centre on 16 and 17 October.
Ossie Whittley built a majority of the models, including his popular Jedda cruising yacht. The show also included models of steam-powered engines, and an impressive model of a revolving lift for boats moving from one lower canal level to a higher water flow, built by engineer Bill Agnew.
Local historian John Woolley provided historical information and photos on Bass Strait oil rigs and their supply ships.
