Lucky escape for policeman

A KOOWEERUP policeman was lucky to escape injury when his car was rammed by a speeding driver near Tooradin last Monday.
Sergeant Kevin Isles was on the South Gippsland Highway when he detected a north-bound car doing 155km/h on the road, a 100km/h zone.
Sgt Isles attempted to intercept the Black Toyota Landcruiser at 8.10pm. The driver stopped about 250 metres north of Dore Road, near Tooradin, on the right-hand side of the road.
As Sgt Isles moved to get out of his vehicle, the Toyota accelerated backwards, ramming the police car, and then sped off.
The offender’s car had NSW registered plates.
Sergeant Trevor Teer, of Pakenham police, said Sgt Isles was lucky to avoid injury.
The car received ‘moderate’ damage and was not driveable.
The offender could face serious charges including conduct endangering life and evading police.
