A ‘make it safe’ push

By Bridget Cook
A CAMPAIGN is being run to improve safety at the intersection of Pound and Shrives Roads in Hampton Park.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley is leading the campaign, after receiving calls from a number of residents expressing their concerns about the intersection.
Speaking in Parliament, Ms Graley says the intersection is regularly the site of long waits in traffic as people seek to turn safely so they can get home, to school, to the shops and other facilities.
“Residents in nearby estates regularly contact me about having difficulty getting in and out of their neighbourhoods,” Ms Graley said.
“The lengthy waits often contribute to dangerous driving, with aghast onlookers reporting the risky behaviour of some drivers. I am determined to secure an upgrade to this intersection.”
Ms Graley requested the Minister for Roads and Ports ask VicRoads to investigate improvements to the intersection.
Local resident Kylie Christmas said she hoped a solution would be found soon.
“The intersection is dangerous, congested and turning right is impossible,” she said.
“People cut through the Mobil service station on the corner to avoid it, which is also dangerous.
“I hope something can be done about this.”
