MORE than 170 people enjoyeda carnival atmosphere at the Mayoral Arts Dinner in Cranbourne onMonday.
A celebration of Casey’s active arts community was celebrated at the dinner, with entertainment from fire twirlers and a’ Capella singers.
Mayor Lorraine Wreford congratulated those involved in the arts community for helping to make Casey a richer, more vibrant municipality.
Jenny Black and Professor John Miller were announced as the joint recipients of the 2010 Lindsay King Arts Initiative Award.
The award is given out in memory of the late Lindsay King and aims to recognise individual contributions to Casey’s arts community.
Mrs Black was acknowledged for her tireless support to the development of performing arts and young people in the arts as president of the BATS Theatre Company.
She has volunteered her expertise for a range of production and co-ordination roles for more than 10 years, including mayoral arts concerts,Casey Idol and People in the Parks events.
Prof Miller was recognised for his contribution to visual arts in Casey.
He has been on the committee of the Berwick Artists Society since it started in 1992, and has helped initiate programs including the Winter Outings and Portrait Group.
He is also the vice-president of the Berwick Mechanics Institute and Free Library.
