Cranbourne Greyhound Racing track will shine under new lights after the club installed new energy-saving LED lighting.
The upgrade at the Grant Street complex will mean an electrical saving cost of about 55 per cent.
“These new LED lights are more environmentally friendly and more economic,” Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club chief executive Amanda Cameron said.
“We also believe they will be better for the welfare of the greyhounds racing at night as they have brighter lighting for racing with a better coverage.”
The new lighting was made thanks to a grant from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund.
Castle Electrical won the contract to carry out the installation with Plusrite Australia supplying 400 watt LED floodlights with special optical lens.
Plusrite Australia managing director Ross Herdman said when power was lost with the old technology there would be up to a 20 minute start-up time before the lights would turn on again.
“With LED you can turn them off and on instantly and will start immediately,” he said.
“I know in the pass Cranbourne racing codes have lost racing because of lights take a long time to restart.”
He added with the new LED lighting, only 26,800 watts of power would be used meaning a power saving of about 65 per cent.
