POLICE turned away 60 carloads of party goers who turned up to a “fake” party in Cranbourne on the weekend.
Superintendent Shane Patton said the number of people turned away on Friday night was not surprising considering more than 6000 people had confirmed they would attend the party on the social networking site facebook.
The party came to police attention on Thursday and was discovered as a fake when a Cranbourne teenager received an invitation online and was shocked to realised the party was due to be held at his own house.
Police had a significant police presence at the residential address on Friday night and letter dropped the area to let residents know about the circumstances of the party.
“The police operation went well from our perspective,” Supt Patton said.
Police are still investigating who is responsible for the party, but Supt Patton said on Friday afternoon that “some idiot” could face charges of public nuisance for the prank.
“This has taken up police resources.”
Supt Patton warned people of any age should be mindful of what they’re doing online.
