An elected Liberal Nationals Government has pledged to upgrade Devon Meadows Football Netball Club.
The coalition has promised to provide $150,000 towards the club at Glover Recreation Reserve to install new netball lights, upgrade the netball pavilion, provide new behind the goal catch nets and install a new family playground.
Currently only one of the three courts has lights, which compromises the netball team’s hours of training and playing, diminishes their ability to take on new members and increases usage on the only court that has lighting
The new improvements to the netball pavilion will see space for both home and away teams to be under shelter during inclement weather, as well as providing protection for players at all times.
The new facilities will allow for the club to increase their membership and participation rates across the three organisations.
This funding will also help encourage other organisations to use the Reserve, such as tennis, scouts, CFA and the wider community.
Member for Hastings Neale Burgess said: “The members of the Devon Meadows Football Netball Club, both senior and junior teams are passionate people, many of whom have been involved with the clubs since they were children, now their children and getting involved and active – it’s like a second home”
Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien said Premier Daniel Andrews handed over $225 million “wilfully to the AFL to upgrade Etihad Stadium, but can’t find a cent to give to local sporting clubs that are struggling with old and inadequate facilities.”
Labor has been contacted for comment.
