Wild weather warning

CASEY residents are being urged to prepare their homes for wild weather as the State Emergency Service launches a storm safety campaign.
StormSafe Week, held from 16 August to 23 August, is an intensive state-wide education campaign aimed to encourage residents to be prepared for severe storms.
The campaign comes after the Victorian SES experienced its busiest period on record during the Labour Day weekend in March.
While Casey escaped relatively unscathed during the wild weather compared to other parts of the state, the Narre Warren unit still received calls for help for flash flooding, building damage and trees down.
Narre Warren unit medialiaison officer Keith Grant said the storms in March were one of the10 most costly natural disastersin Australia from the past 50years.
“The $1 billion damage bill from the unprecedented storms over the Labour Day long weekend indicates just how important it is to be adequately prepared for storms,” Mr Grant said.
StormSafe will equip people with tips on how to protect their properties and avoid injury during storms.
“The campaign offers the community a practical checklist they need to follow before, during and after a storm.”
