CHILDREN’S author Phil Kettle dropped in to share some tips with Kilberry Valley Primary School students recently.
Mr Kettle spoke to the Grade 3 and 4 students about his writing process from start to finish, and the students undertook some planning of their own imaginative story.
Mr Kettle wrote the Too Cool series, which included 34 books all up.
Teacher Christine Turner said the students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop with Mr Kettle, and listening to how his work was first noticed.
Mr Kettle was a primary school teacher and used to write his own stories for disengaged children who didn’t enjoy reading as much as others and sent the stories home with the students.
His talent for writing was picked up by one of the parents of Mr Kettle’s students, who read his work that was sent home with their child. “The kids really got a lot out of it,” Ms Turner said.
