THE Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change visited Casey last month to talk to the community about environmental issues.
Mary Wooldridge visited the Stevensons Road and Hallam Road landfills and spoke to community groups and stakeholders about their concerns.
Ms Wooldridge was joined by local Liberal candidates at each location.
“We visited these sites to meet with residents and community groups who feel that John Brumby’s neglect of creeks, rivers and landfills in the South East has had a detrimental impact on the environment and local communities,” she said.
Ms Wooldridge was taken on a tour of the Hallam Road Landfill with local residents.
The main concern raised by residents, whose homes neighbour the landfill, was the failure to effectively monitor and respond to odour issues impacting the residents.
At the Stevensons Road Landfill, local residents and Liberal candidates discussed with Ms Wooldridge the impact of the methane gas leak on the Brookland Greens and Cranbourne community.
“The Victorian Coalition is considering a range of policies that will better improve our environment in Melbourne’s South East,” she said.
“We are talking to families, business and community groups in these suburbs to ensure they are better supported and have the services they need.”
