Little Cub joins pack

By Bridget Brady
THREE competent Cubs have made their mother as proud as punch.
Tooradin mother of three Allison Simpson said she was overjoyed to see her youngest son, Rohan, join his older brothers to be awarded the highest honour in Cub Scouts – the Grey Wolf Award.
Rohan, 10, is a member of the First Cranbourne Scout Group and received the Grey Wolf Award at a presentation on Monday night. His brothers Nicholas, 14, and Mitchell, 12, earlier gained the same award.
“I’m just delighted. It’s wonderful,” Ms Simpson said.
The Simpsons started their affiliation with Cubs when Nicholas was eight, when he told his mum he wouldn’t mind having a look at a Cub Scout information table at a shopping centre.
Mitchell and Rohan followed their older brother, as did their dad, Ross, who has been a Cub Scout leader for six years. Ms Simpson said she was pleased her sons had learned important life skills, such as making a fire, cooking over a stove, setting up a tent and being able to find their bearings.
“Sometimes, I struggle with north, south, east and west and they tell me which way is north,” she laughed.
Achieving the Grey Wolf Award is no mean feat. The Cubs must already hold a Gold Boomerang badge, and one of the tasks to tick off to achieve the Grey Wolf Award is to lead a two-hour bushwalk.
“It’s not something that’s taken lightly. I’m very proud.” Ms Simpson said.
