Four in a row

DANDENONG and District Junior Football League has taken out its fourth straight Youth Girls cup after coming from behind to beat Western Youth Girls by 25-points at Preston City Oval.
Cranbourne locals Elli Keatch (vice-captain), Jess Wallace and Kirsten McLeod were the centrepieces as the fit DDJFL outfit ran over Western in the final quarter. DDJFL had the ideal lead into the grand final after comfortably knocking off WYG, Northern Youth Girls and Eastern Youth Girls but found the going tough in the grand final.
Needing to negotiate early pressure from WYG, the girls representing DDJFL found initiating the running game a laborious task.
With the scores level at half-time, DDJFL coach Daniel Kerr used the break to point out what needed to be done.
“I pretty much told them to pull their finger out,” Kerr said.
“We needed to go back to the way we had played in the previous three games. We needed our run going and our teamwork and I told them to attack the ball more because we were standing off a bit,” Kerr said.
Keatch’s effort in constructing the defence under pressure as well as McLeod’s run off the wing were imperative to their side’s fourth straight youth girls cup.
