Carjacking scare

Police are calling for witnesses following an attempted carjacking in Cranbourne North last month.

Detective Senior Constable Andrew Walker of the Casey Crime Investigation Unit said a man of African appearance allegedly approached a 29-year-old man sitting in his parked car in Herring Avenue Tuesday 25 September about 8pm.

The victim, who was on his phone, had the window wound down of his Mercedes Benz when the man tried to grab the keys from the ignition.

However, the man didn’t realise the car had a push button start, Detective Sen Const Walker said.

He said the victim of Cranbourne North fought back after being punched multiple times to the head, suffering minor injuries.

The man is described as being in his early twenties with a slim build and wearing a black hoodie and cap.

The victim managed to drive away while the man fled on foot.
