Cranbourne South Primary School is set to undergo a million-dollar face-lift if the State Government wins the November election.

The State Government announced on Thursday 30 August it would invest $5.9 million to completely refurbish and modernise the

Minister for Education James Merlino said the State Government had already delivered more than $600,000 for upgrades to Cranbourne South Primary School but “there’s more to do.”

Should Labor win the election, a start date for works will be determined after the election.

“The Liberals didn’t spend a single cent on Cranbourne South Primary School and slashed $1 billion out of our education system, leaving schools to crumble and decay across the state,” he said.

“Mums and dads in Cranbourne South deserve to know their kids are getting the very best start in life. With these upgrades, we’ll make sure they are.”

The announcement comes after parents at the school complained of mould infested classrooms, quarantined toilets, an EPA notice being issued, and asbestos fears in May.

A lack of disability access to classrooms and a first-aid room has also forced students to relocate to a multi-purpose room riddled with asbestos – which has been marked for removal.

School Council President Jodi Price said the school’s only toilet block that catered for 379 students had to be quarantined in February this year, costing the school “astronomical electricity costs” to run cleaning equipment with no reimbursement in sight.

Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said the major upgrade would provide state-of-the-art facilities for students and staff at the school.
