BUDDING young sports stars in Casey now have double the chance to receive a grant that could help further their careers.
The Federal Government recently announced it had doubled the amount of Local Sporting Champions grants available.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne said this meant 24 individual grants and two team grants would be available in the Holt area, with $18,000 available for young athletes wanting to compete in state and national events.
Cranbourne netballer Tara Cecil received one of the grants last year to help cover her travel costs to New South Wales at the Schoolgirls Championships.
Mr Byrne said the some youngsters in the region could be the next sporting stars, Olympians or Paralympians.
“Tara has already represented Australia in her age group and I look forward to hearing about her achievements in the future,” Mr Byrne said.
