A NEW bowling green at Hampton Park Bowls Club will open this weekend after 20 years of waiting.
Vacant Casey Council land next to the bowls club has been earmarked for a second bowling green since the club opened in 1987. “We first approached council for a second green four or five years ago,” said Geoff Ladner, club secretary.
“This is a fully funded council project.”
Approval for the green was passed by the council in the 2008/9 budget and construction began on 15 January this year.
“It’s much appreciated by the Hampton Park Bowls Club,” said Mr Ladner.
“With the member ship growing as it is, one green isn’t enough.”
The club will celebrate with the council on Saturday 8 May with a luncheon before members try out the green for the first time.
Casey Council put $210,000 towards the new synthetic green.
Ready to celebrate
