SENIOR citizens from the Afghan community received a healthy living message at Hampton Park last week.
The Go For Your Life van visited the Hampton Park Community Centre last Wednesday and the seniors learned about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity.
The event, organised through the South Eastern Region’s Migrant Resource Centre (SERMRC), was aimed at promoting positive ageing.
Participants were encouraged top try a range of activities such as gentle stretches, exercise to music, boxing, hula-hooping and also chatted about healthy eating.
Community education manager for the Go For Your Life program, Andrew Schneider, said it was never too late to embrace and maintain a healthy weight.
“We encouraged the group to eat well-balanced meals that include plenty of nutrient rich foods which can improve energy levels and help maintain a healthy weight,” Mr Schneider said.
“If you haven’t been active for some time, start slowly and build up gradually in small increments of three, 10-minute blocks throughout the day, aiming to achieve a minimum of 30 minutes of daily physical activity.”
