Laptop lights up faces

THE donation of a laptop is a welcome gift at the Hampton Park Community Centre.
Manager Sue Murphy said the generous donation would make a huge difference to staff at the community centre who did their best with limited resources.
“We’ve got 22 staff and about nine computers for the office,” Ms Murphy said.
“Everything that comes our way is of great benefit.”
Stockland ran a competition for local residents to come up with a name for a new community in Clyde North. Winner Ayse Sener, who came up with Selandra Rise, won a laptop for herself, and also for an organisation of her choice.
Ms Murphy said she was grateful to Stockland and Ms Sener for thinking of the Hampton Park Community Centre. “It was lovely,” she said.
“We raise a lot of our funds ourselves and also try to keep the cost of our classes very reasonable.”
Ms Murphy said one of the offices at the centre was tiny and shared by about eight staff members who took it in turns to use a computer.
The centre offers a range of classes including English speaking classes, art and craft, yoga, life skills as well as childcare services.
