New street banners featuring Australia’s most endangered birds have popped up in Pearcedale.

Casey Council installed the six banners last week at the entrance to the Pearcedale shopping precinct along Baxter-Tooradin Road.

The banners feature the orange-bellied parrot, in honour of the work Moonlit Sanctuary Conservation Park is doing to conserve the endangered birds.

City of Casey communications manager Gerard Scholten said the design was chosen as it was vibrant, eye-catching, reflected the landscape of Pearcedale and had a great story behind the visual.

“It highlights the important work Moonlit Sanctuary does through several conservation breeding programs, including that for the orange bellied parrot,” he said.

“Council had some designs created which reflected the coastal rural locality, the flora and fauna of the area and the significant tourist destination, Moonlit Sanctuary.”

Mr Scholten said township banners were installed across many locations in the municipality to enhance the streetscape, help create a sense of arrival and identity for residents and help attract visitors to the area.

Moonlit Sanctuary took out an award for Environmental Protection at the Premier Sustainability Awards last year for its orange-bellied parrot National Recovery Plan to save the bird from extinction.
