A time to shine

Community group leaders will be recognised for their contribution in making stronger communities during a forum to be held this month.

Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC) will host the 2018 Ethnic Seniors Leadership Forum where attendees will be presented with an award certificate for their services to the community.

The event will be held at Lynbrook Community Centre on Tuesday 26 June from 9.30am – 2pm with an opportunity for people to enjoy capacity building workshops on the changes in aged care including, accessing aged care services through My Aged Care, Centrelink, Power of Attorneys, community legal assistance.

In its fifth year, the Ethnic Seniors Leadership Forum will be attended by special guests from Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria (ECCV) and Councillors from City of Greater Dandenong.

The event will feature pop up stalls represented by City of Greater Dandenong, City of Casey, YMCA, Centrelink, Office of Public Advocate, Monash Health , Peninsula Legal Community Centre , Housing for the Aged Action Group and ECCV.

A world food fare luncheon and entertainment by the Cook Islander Seniors Group will also be provided at the end of the event.“As we celebrate our Silver Jubilee Year, we are proud to recognise the importance of positive aging and empowering our community to feel resilient in dealing with many changes happening around them,” said Mr Ramesh Kumar, chief executive of SMRC.

“We look forward to the opportunity to see them shine and radiate energy,” he said.
