WORKS has started to improve street lighting at one of Cranbourne’s main intersections.
Lighting at the intersection of theSouth Gippsland Highway and Sladen Street will be upgraded as part of the $184,000 works and is expected to be finished in June.
The works will also include replacing rigid poles with impact-absorbing ones.
The intersection was highlighted for improvement after a review of collisions at the site, which revealed more than half occurred at dusk or at night.
Cranbourne Labor MP Jude Perera said there were 14 casualty crashes at the intersection, eight at dusk or night, in the five years to June 2009.
“A review of the street lighting at the intersection found it needed to be improved,” Mr Perera said.
“Also, there are a number of rigid poles at the intersection that are considered a safety issue. These will be replaced as part of the project works.”
