School alarmed at shortcut risk

MOTORBIKE riders are using the Lynbrook pedestrian underpass just a few hundred metres away from a new school.
St Francis de Sales principal Des Dalton said he noticed motorbikes on the Aylmer Road underpass before the school year had started and two parents had since brought it to his attention.
“They are just people commuting from one place to another. It’s not as if they are speeding or showing off,” Mr Dalton said.
The school was about 200 metres away from the motorbikes, and Mr Dalton said there was a risk of danger with children coming and going.
Mayfield Ward councillor Amanda Stapledon raised the matter as urgent business at this week’s Casey Council meeting.
Sergeant Pat McGavigan from the Casey Traffic Management Unit said police were working closely with Casey residents to try and address some of the off-road bike issues in the municipality.
“If we do catch riders we’ll be impounding their bikes under the City of Casey local law and charging the driver with relevant offences,” Sgt McGavigan said.
