VANDALS have targeted a Cranbourne welfare group, with wheelie bins set alight on two separate occasions.
Two bins were set on fire at the Cranbourne Salvation Army sometime on the weekend and one again on Monday night.
Corps officer Captain Kelvin Young said he was disappointed at the incidents because of the work the Salvation Army did for the community.
“The work we do here is to really help people and make sure they’ve got their needs for the week, the month or whatever we can help them with,” Captain Young said.
It was not clear at this stage whether the Salvation Army would have to pay to replace the bins, Captain Young said.
“We don’t make money. It’s not the way it works.”
Given the anniversary of Black Saturday was on the weekend, Captain Young said it was disappointing someone would play a prank, especially when surrounding grass was still dry.
“It’s just silly stuff,” he said.
