CASEY’S Young Citizen of the Year says she takes every day as it comes and likes to seize all opportunities.
A self-confessed sports fanatic, Beth Cooper said she was surprised and privileged to take out the Young Citizen of the Year honour on Australia Day.
Beth, 17, was school captain at Gleneagles Secondary College in Endeavour Hills last year and has started her Year 12 studies recently.
Beth was leader during a year of change at the school, which included a new school uniform and the first batch of VCE students.
“Last year, I was trying to promote new tradition. To make ourselves sort of separate and unique,” Beth said.
She said it was important to listen to everyone as a school leader.
“I’m a pretty easy going sort of person. I always give everyone a go.”
On top of her school leadership commitments, Beth volunteered some time at a nearby retirement village and at community events such as the launch of the Casey Safety Village. She also helped donate blankets and cans of food to the Burwood RSPCA shelter.
“I loved meeting new people. It was good fun.”
Beth works part time as a swimming teacher and said she loved all sports, and enjoyed watching the recent tennis and cricket action.
Beth said she hoped to be a physical education teacher in the future.
