Local resident Annie Lamb says a crash is waiting to happen at the intersection of Clyde-Five Ways Road and Twyford Road in Clyde after seeing “many near misses”.
She says traffic lights were badly-needed at the intersection.
“I’ve no doubt a major accident will happen soon”.
“Drivers are taking risks turning in front of traffic and driving down the gravel edge because they’re sick of waiting for a gap in traffic,” she said.
Ms Lamb said the problem was only going to get worse with nearby housing developments going up rapidly.
“The traffic travelling north-south has been building since the estate went in just south of this intersection”.
“There’s also big trucks in the area now another estate is going in up Tuckers Road. It’s dangerous,” she said.
Two crashes have occurred at the intersection in the past five years, according to VicRoads data but neither incident resulted in serious injuries.
Ms Lamb said impatient drivers on Twyford Road were “just turning with the tiniest gap in traffic”.
“VicRoads will continue to monitor road safety at the intersection of Clyde-Five Ways Road and Twyford Road in Clyde,” said VicRoads Manager Movement and Safety Sasha Yarwood.
“Any potential improvement works will be considered as part of future funding packages,” he added.
Member for Cranbourne Jude Perera said he would also monitor the intersection.
“We’ve also recently undertaken an important safety review of the South Gippsland Highway between Clyde-Fiveways Road and Ballarto Road,” he said.
“We’re investing in the roads that people in the south east rely on every day – upgrading key arterials like Thompsons Road and Narre-Warren Cranbourne Road.”
