A HAMPTON Park man was airlifted to The Alfred hospital when he was run over by his own car as it was being stolen in Lynbrook last week.
Police believed the 51-year-old man was at a shopping centre in Lynbrook Boulevard when he noticed his car being driven out of the car park about 6.05pm on 21 January.
The man attempted to stop the offender driving his car, but the driver did not stop and ran him over, police said.
The driver continued towards Patterson Drive in the Nissan Patrol vehicle, which was later recovered.
Paramedics said the Hampton Park man was treated for life-threatening injuries.
Intensive care paramedic Adam Findley said the man had serious chest, pelvic and internal injuries.
“The man was in a massive amount of pain resulting from multiple injuries throughout his upper body,” Mr Findley said.
The man police are looking for is described as Caucasian, about 27 to 32 years old with a fair complexion, fair hair on the side of his head and facial hair. He was possibly wearing a hat.
