Selfless service to others

By Brendan Rees

Casey Senior Citizen of the Year went to Ray Bell who volunteers tirelessly for CHIPs (Christians Helping in Primary Schools).
Mr Bell has mentored children, driven buses, sailed boats for the Sailabilty program, taught children robotics and English as a second language, and provided technical assistance for Christmas activities.
He has also taught computer skills to older adults and assisted his local church in community work, and is a lifelong learner, particularly in the areas of science and the environment.
Mr Bell said the award was unexpected, adding “there’s more deserving people around.”
“It is a good feeling when you make a difference.”
He is a compassionate person who demonstrates selfless service to others.
