Seven kids, no seatbelts

A 31 year-old Cranbourne woman is likely to be charged after allegedly driving on Princes Highway in Hallam with seven children unrestrained in her car.
Police say it was “unbelievable” when Casey Highway Patrol members observed two small children “jumping around” unrestrained on a back seat as the Mazda wagon was seen leaving a motel on Thursday 23 November, about 3.30pm.
Police intercepted the car and found there were no child restraints or capsules in the vehicle as well as the driver being unlicensed and driving an unregistered vehicle.
A closer check of the eight-seater car found the following:
* A five-year-old male in the very back seat unrestrained.
* A three-year-old female jumping on the back seat unrestrained.
* A two-year-old female laying on the back seat unrestrained.
* A four-year-old female sitting in the back seat unrestrained.
* A seven-year-old female sitting in the back seat unrestrained.
* A nine-year-old male nursing a three-month-old baby, both unrestrained.
Police interviewed the driver in relation to the serious dangers of having unrestrained children in the car and she will appear before a magistrate in the coming months.
Casey Highway Patrol members also detected two motorists driving under the influence of illicit drugs when they conducted close to 200 preliminary breath tests.
Fourteen penalty notices were issued in relation to speeding and another six for motorists for not obeying traffic signals or signs.
Four motorists were caught using their mobile phone while driving while another five drivers were found either driving unlicensed, disqualified, cancelled or suspended.
