Nervous Year 12s received their VCE results on Monday, and staff members have congratulated the students on their hard work.
Cranbourne Secondary College Dux and college captain Kieran McQueen,17, said he was “dumbstruck” when he heard he received an ENTER score of 99.15.
Principal Yvonne Watts said she was very proud of Kieran, and said she believed it was the second best result in the school’s history.
“Iwas kind of hoping for about a 95 or something, but this was beyond my imagination,” Kieran said.
Kieran said he hoped to study a double degree of science and engineering at Monash University next year.
Kieran said he kept busy during the year with his role as college captain, and playing basketball six days a week.
“Thanks to all of my teachers. They were available any time Ineeded and it really helped.”
St Peter’s College Dux Darrell Ramnuth said he hoped to study physiotherapy at Monash University in the future after he received a score of 97.65.
Darrell learned to speak English after his family arrived in Australia from Mauritius when he was 12 years old.
He said his young age meant it was relatively easy to pick up his new language, but it was not his favourite subject this year.
“I said to myself, it’s got to count this year so I’d better start trying,” he said.
Darrell also studied specialist maths, physics, chemistry and maths methods. He also completed biology and French in Year 11. “It was a lot of hard work. I’m really happy.”
Darrell said he kept busy during his year of study, swimming five sessions a week.
“I think the busier you are, the more you fit in.”
