Web for seniors

OLDER residents visiting the Hampton Park Senior Citizens Centre can now surf the internet for free.
A Broadband for Seniors Kiosk has been developed at the centre as part of an Australian Government funded initiative, which provides older residents with the chance to gain tuition and have some free time on the internet.
River Gum Ward councillor Lynette Keleher, who last month launched the initiative, said the kiosk was a wonderful initiative that would provide seniors with the equipment and know-how to connect to the internet.
“Council has been very pleased to provide support to the Hampton Park Senior Citizens Club through the process of setting up the kiosk, which will be funded for two years by the Australian Government and will result in the club keeping the computer equipment,” Cr Keleher said.
“It’s about social inclusion and community participation. We all want to feel part of what’s going on around us, and the Broadband for Seniors Kiosk will help to make that happen.” Volunteers will donate 20 hours a week to the kiosk to share their technical knowledge with others.
