Award for water guru

By Kara Irving
A CHISHOLM TAFE academic has been awarded an international scholarship to study water management in the Netherlands, Spain and Israel.
Michael Anderson was granted one of the10 yearly scholarships provided by the International Specialist Skills Unit at a ceremony held in Melbourne last week.
As a part of his scholarship, Anderson will travel to three multi-national water companies to learn different training strategies to manage skills, shortages and deficiencies in Australian water industries.
During the visit, Anderson will also learn how to treat waste in an environmentally friendly way, as opposed to chemical waste treatments, which often leave sewage contaminated and non-reusable.
Anderson says he was “presently surprised” when he’d received the highly sought after scholarship, which will come into effect in April 2010.
Prior to jetting off, Anderson will continue to work on the project team of the Chisholm Centre for Sustainable Water Management.
Based at Chisholm’s Cranbourne campus, the centre strives on its ability to train in areas of water treatment, storm water harvesting and civil construction.
